Kuantan, usually missed out by tourists, is actually a fantastic place to explore! Full of history, mosques, and great beaches, we couldn’t let this one out of our itinerary so on our way up the east coast we decided to make a quick stop at the capital of Pahang. We spent a few days here with Hyatt Regency Kuantan, and here you’ll find our honest review of this resort!
Hyatt Regency Kuantan Resort
Location
Hyatt Regency Kuantan is located on the beachfront of Teluk Chempedak, a long sandy and palm-fringed beach on the east coast of peninsular Malaysia. The resort is only a short 15-minute drive from the town center and located just 5 minutes away from various restaurants. From Kuala Lumpur, you can to Kuantan on a 3-hour ride or a quick 50-minute flight.
The Rooms
Hyatt Regency Kuantan offers 300 guestrooms, including 12 luxurious suites and 19 family-oriented rooms. The rooms have either garden or sea view and since we stayed at a King Sea View Room, this is the one we will focus on in this review.
The room is really spacious and features a private balcony and an open-plan bathroom (had never seen one of these before and we love it!). It has a central air conditioning system and it also counts with a multipurpose desk, a chaise lounge, a tv, a minibar, and an ironing set. Electric kettle, complimentary tea, and coffee are also available.
Rates here start at around 92 euros a night for the Garden View Rooms, 125 for the Sea View Rooms, 173 for Family Rooms, and 372 for their Regency Luxury Suites. Prices are exclusive of breakfast, which costs an additional 29 euros per night.

The Space
Hyatt Regency Kuantan boasts two outdoor pools overlooking the South China Sea, the Bayou Spa, tennis courts, and a gym.
The biggest pool is often frequented by adults only and even though the resort has hundreds of rooms, you won’t see this area getting busy at all. The other pool has a swim-up bar that offers signature drinks, ice creams, and snacks and it is a bit busier, but still, quite a peaceful place to spend the day! There are also a few cushioned sunbeds and straw parasols located on the beach for guests’ convenience.
The Bayou Spa offers treatments that are curated with a combination of Malay and local indigenous massage techniques that use exclusively blended oils. Treatments here range from 40 to 100 euros.
The Food
Hyatt Regency Kuantan offers five dining options:
Kampung
Kampung, where breakfast is served, is open for all-day dining serving a combination of Western, traditional Malay, Indian as well as local Chinese cuisines. The breakfast is served from 6:30 AM to 11:00 AM and it is honestly one of the most complete buffets we have seen in Malaysia! All while listening and admiring the waves from your seat.
Italian Bistro
Their award-winning Italian Bistro, where we had a romantic dinner, is an open-concept kitchen that serves classic Italian dishes accompanied by great wine. It is open every night from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, except for Sundays.
We recommend booking their Romantic Set Dinner for 2, not only for the whole romantic set up, which is beautiful but for the food which is unbelievable! The whole six-course set costs around 152 euros for the couple and you can choose between having dinner on their terrace or on the beach. It was, unfortunately, raining the night we booked ours so we had it in their dining area, but if the weather is good, you should definitely go for the beach option!!
Sampan Bar
This boat-shaped bar is THE place to relax after a day on the beach! Open every day from 12:00 PM to 11.00 PM, it offers a selection of signature cocktails and house pours. We asked for the bartender’s recommendation and he didn’t disappoint!
The drinks here are delicious and cost around 9-12 euros each. Quick tapas are also available on their menu.
Chukka
If you’re not ready to go to bed after your dinner, you can head to Chukka for some drinks and live entertainment offered by a resident DJ. Bartenders at Chukka also make a show of creating cocktails and classic drinks! The bar is open from 6:30 PM to 12:00 AM and is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Coals on the Beach
This casual dining area located right in front of the beach used to offer all types of tapas with a great view of the sea but is unfortunately currently closed.

Conclusion
It is no surprise Hyatt is a great company, but what really gets us every single time we stay with them is the great service offered by their staff. They really create the right experience for every guest and are the highlight of every stay with Hyatt. We can’t imagine the work that goes behind training such awesome staff!
The price is also great for such a resort, and this time we have no downsides to note. Wifi is really good, the room is super comfortable and spacious, the beach where the resort is located is beautiful and the food is amazing.
We left Hyatt Regency Kuantan feeling like the resort itself should be more than enough reason for people to include Kuantan on their travel itineraries.
